Summary:
|
This Memorandum of Understanding is with YMCA of Silicon Valley, which provides experience in health and wellness activities in a community environment.
The YMCA provides students/participants in both MVLA high schools and Adult Transition Program (ATP) the opportunity to gain experience participating in health & wellness activities in a community environment with the goals of improving their physical fitness, interacting with members of the community, learning new skills, and increasing their independence.
There are 23 students in ATP who will access YMCA two times a week. The YMCA will work in conjunction with MVLA staff to implement an annual wellness orientation that will include goal setting and an overview of the safe use of the facilities and equipment including court sports, group exercise, cardio and weight training (using strength training equipment).
The YMCA will also provide one staff member to instruct and lead the wellness orientation component of the program and to check in with the students/participants as needed during the year.
Adult Transition Program teachers will supervise and monitor progress of students along with the instructional assistants assigned to the program.
