Summary:

Background: From the onset of school closing, we began the process of teaching virtually as well as planning for the Fall of 2020. We continued to plan for a new modality in the spring while preparing for three possible scenarios in the fall. Over 150 staff members were involved on a task force that created detailed prioritized action plans. We also engaged parents with webinars, Thoughtexchange, newsletters, and a parent advisory round table. We worked with our regional fellow high school districts, our partner districts, our county office of education, and public health guidelines. We recognize that the planning for all three modalities will be useful given the high likelihood of shifting between the three methods as health guidelines may dictate. Student needs will be evaluated and prioritized as we bring back small groups for support and interaction. We also will consider the instructional requirements of certain subject matter for hands on or physical interaction. Students who are determined to need a high level of support academically and social-emotionally will be given priority. Calendar/Assessment/Academics: First Day of School-Staff recommends students virtual return to school on August 12, 2020. Students will be involved in mandatory virtual training for Distance Learning as well as a series of orientation activities from Wednesday August 12th thorough Friday August 14th. Scheduled Classes with teachers will begin on Monday August 17, 2020. Student orientation activities, technology and book checkouts, and community building activities begin for students on August 12-14, 2020. Assessment - Grades will be given to students throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Academics - Students will participate in a robust and dynamic academic program. Staff has and will continue to work this summer to create virtual lessons and to deliver challenging academic content. Synchronous and Asynchronous Supplementary and Enrichment opportunities will also be available to students. Choice Options - Students who are not able to physically return to campus for health reasons, family health concerns, or desire not to for personal reasons may choose to enroll in a distance learning program for the entire semester. We will be assessing student participation and sending out more information on this topic.
